The Multistart Drop-Add-Swap Heuristic for the Uncapacitated Facility Location Problem
نویسندگان
چکیده
The uncapacitated facility location problem aims to select a subset of facilities to open, so that the demands of a given set of customers are satisfied at the minimum cost. In this study, we present a novel multistart Drop-Add-Swap heuristic for this problem. The proposed heuristic is multiple applications of the DropAdd-Swap heuristic with randomly generated initial solutions. And the proposed Drop-Add-Swap heuristic begins its search with an initial solution, then iteratively applies the Drop operation, the Add operation or the Swap operation to the solution to search for a better one. Cost updating rather than recomputing is utilized, so the proposed heuristic is time efficient. With extensive experiments on most benchmarks in the literature, the proposed heuristic has been shown competitive to the state-of-the-art heuristics and metaheuristics.

A hybrid multistart heuristic for the uncapacitated facility location problem
We present a multistart heuristic for the uncapacitated facility location problem, based on a very successful method we originally developed for the p-median problem. We show extensive empirical evidence to the effectiveness of our algorithm in practice. For most benchmarks instances in the literature, we obtain solutions that are either optimal or a fraction of a percentage point away from it....
متن کاملSolving the uncapacitated facility location problem with semi-Lagrangian relaxation∗
The Semi-Lagrangian Relaxation (SLR) method has been introduced in [BTV06] to solve the p-median problem. In this paper we apply the method to the Uncapacitated Facility Location (UFL) problem. We perform computational experiments on two main collections of UFL problems with unknown optimal values. On one collection, we manage to solve to optimality 16 out of the 18 instances. On the second col...
متن کاملComplexity of Single-Swap Heuristics for Metric Facility Location and Related Problems
Metric facility location and K-means are well-known problems of combinatorial optimization. Both admit a fairly simple heuristic called single-swap, which adds, drops or swaps open facilities until it reaches a local optimum. For both problems, it is known that this algorithm produces a solution that is at most a constant factor worse than the respective global optimum. In this paper, we show t...
متن کاملCuckoo search via Levy flights applied to uncapacitated facility location problem
Facility location problem (FLP) is a mathematical way to optimally locate facilities within a set of candidates to satisfy the requirements of a given set of clients. This study addressed the uncapacitated FLP as it assures that the capacity of every selected facility is finite. Thus, even if the demand is not known, which often is the case, in reality, organizations may still be able to take s...
متن کاملSimpler Analyses of Local Search Algorithms for Facility Location
We study local search algorithms for metric instances of facility location problems: the uncapacitated facility location problem (UFL), as well as uncapacitated versions of the k-median, k-center and kmeans problems. All these problems admit natural local search heuristics: for example, in the UFL problem the natural moves are to open a new facility, close an existing facility, and to swap a cl...
